COMMENT: The insured states that he paid a conservator $2,400.00 to restore the work of art.  While we noted some superficial cleaning, the drawing was not removed from the backing board or flattened, and the stains were not significantly diminished.  Had the drawing been restored adequately, the damages would have been greatly mitigated if not completely removed.  The amount of money paid to the insured was more than sufficient to have the drawing restored correctly.  We recommend that the insured take up the issue of the insufficient restoration with the restorer who did the work.

The insured provided an appraisal from Renaissance Fine Art indicating that the drawing was purchased at Drouot Paris in June of 1984, omitting the date of sale, sale number, and lot number. We checked the auction records from this month, and could not find a similar work listed.
