COMMENT: The place on the diamond where the insured believes the diamond is chipped is actually what is called an “indented natural”. This is a natural occurrence in diamond, and was not caused by an external blow or impact to the diamond. A “natural” is an area of the diamond that is left uncut by the diamond cutter during the cutting process. In fact this particular diamond has several other such “indented naturals” in other places along the girdle of the stone. This is quite common, and can exist on diamonds of far greater value than the diamond involved in this claim.
